Professor Michal MIOVSKÝ, PhD

Clinical psychologist, adictologist, psychotherapist, and certified supervisor. A graduate of the single-major master’s programme in psychology at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno and postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Arts of Palacky University in Olomouc. In 2005 he qualified as a senior lecturer ("docent") in clinical psychology at Palacký University in Olomouc and in 2012 he was appointed as a professor of clinical psychology at Charles University. He started his professional career as a prevention and counselling worker at the Podané ruce association in Brno, where he later worked as the head of the Elysium day-care psychotherapeutic centre and the manager of the Department of Treatment Facilities. In parallel, he pursued clinical psychology at the Brno-Bohunice Psychiatric Department. From 2001 to 2005 he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Psychology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and as a lecturer at the Department of Psychology of Palacký University in Olomouc. While there, he was mainly concerned with research methodology, the treatment and prevention of substance abuse-related problems, and narrative psychology applied to work with film. In 2005 he was appointed the head of the newly-established Centre for Addictology at the Department of Psychiatry of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. After the merger of the Centre for Addictology and the Department for Addiction Treatment at the General University Hospital (U Apolináře), an independent Department of Addictology was established (January 2012) with Professor Miovský as its head, a position which he continues to occupy until this day. Since 2008 he has held the office of Vice-Dean for non-medical study programmes at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. From 2016 to 2018 he served as the President of the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE). In 2016 he became a founding member of the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR), where he was elected its first ever President in 2017 after this international organisation had been formally registered. He is a permanent member of the Scientific Board of Charles University and a member of the Scientific Board of the Minister of Health of the Czech Republic.

Alena Žižková, MD

She is 51 years old. She has been working in general psychiatry since graduating from medical school. She studied at the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague. She was a member of a multidisciplinary team of the Mental Health Centre as part of the ongoing Psychiatry Reform project. She is married; her husband Jan is a medical doctor. She is the mother of two sons, 23 and 17 years old. She relaxes by playing sports and gardening.

Silvia Miklíková, MA

Silvia Mikliklíková has been working with clients since 2009, providing services to drug users and their families and loved ones in the Slovak non-profit organisation Plan B, which she founded and led. Since 2012 she has been working in private practice - mostly with foreign clients (in English).

Silvia graduated in psychology from the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava and completed certified training in crisis intervention and accredited IVGT psychotherapy training in gestalt therapy in Prague. She is licensed to work as a psychologist in the healthcare sector. She was an external consultant for the Institute for Training in Gestalt Therapy, Prague in 2018 and 2019, and at the same time she conducted a seminar on Counselling and Addictology at New York University Prague. Currently, she is a supervisor trainee at IPsiG - Istituto di Psicopatologia e Psicoterapia della Gestalt, Turin, Italy. She has lived abroad for a long time (London, UK).

Psychotherapeutic work requires a good command of, particularly, crisis intervention and motivational work with the client. In therapy and counselling, she focuses on the client, their needs, and experience of the specific, often difficult life situation. In recent years, she was involved in the preparation and development of educational and training materials for professionals in the prevention of risky behaviour among children and adolescents at the Department of Addictology of the First Medical Faculty of Charles University and the General University Hospital in Prague.

In addition to psychology, she has also been active in other areas. She worked for the Open Society Foundation, where she headed the public health programme for five years. In her work, she focused on mediation activities and research supporting the protection of the rights and improvement of the life and opportunities of people using illegal drugs and other disadvantaged minority social groups (people working in the sex industry, people living with HIV/AIDS, and others). She also worked for the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia in Vienna and was involved in long-term projects for the UN Regional Centre and the Delegation of the European Union in Bratislava.

Petr Bednařík, MA

His psychotherapeutic practice is based on the PCA - Person-Centred Approach, a humanistic non-directive psychotherapeutic orientation founded by Carl Rogers. He empowers his clients to get more in touch with themselves and deepen their authenticity, which helps them understand their distress and manage it better.

Petr acquired a single-major master’s degree in psychology at Palacký University in Olomouc (2010) and completed accredited training in psychotherapy at the Czech Institute for a Person-Centred Approach in Brno (2007). He completed other courses and training programmes in the psychotherapeutic field, such as Telephone Crisis Intervention - Déčko, Liberec, KBT of Anxiety Disorders, Transactional Analysis - TA101 and a course in mediation and conflict resolution. Prior to his psychotherapeutic practice, he worked in several multinational companies (e.g. Pfizer, Infosys, Accenture, Societe Generale, etc.) in finance management, where he also used his coaching experience.

He works with clients on a variety of topics that they bring to therapy, including relationship issues, low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression or various life changes. His practice also covers work-related topics such as workplace relationships, burnout syndrome, and leadership coaching.

Jakub Hybš, MA

Jakub Hybš is a graduate of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Charles University and a holder of several Czech and foreign certifications. He specialises in people with serious musculoskeletal problems and pre- and post-operation management of patients' health conditions. His specialisation involves sports training of professional athletes, both in individual training and as a supervisor of top-level clubs and teams. He applies a comprehensive approach to the solution of musculoskeletal problems by means of differential functional diagnosis and specific follow-up care in coordination with other physiotherapists and physicians. As a former student of Professor Pavel Kolář, he uses the DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation) method to link primary rehabilitation care and subsequent long-term work with clients in their return to full life or sports performance. His passion is educational work. He leads specialised seminars focusing on topics such as the education of future coaches, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation physicians. The topics of his primary interest include Functional Training Prescription, specific aspects of training children and young people, and his original FMP (Functional Movement Principles) methodology. He runs his own comprehensive centre which caters to the general public and leads a team of experts who, in collaboration with external professionals, address health optimisation and healthy lifestyles.

Ivana Ballová, MA

After completing her university studies, Ivana Ballova worked for the Slovak national organisation Centre for Counselling and Psychological Services, where she worked with individual clients and couples. As a psychologist, she was also involved in national and international adoptions. Subsequently, after moving to Luxembourg, she worked with European institutions for which she prepared training programmes. In her private therapeutic practice, she has always worked mostly with English-speaking clients.

The founding of the Luxembourg Association for Gestalt Therapy led her to the role of President of the organisation, which she headed for five years and continues to work with to this day. She is currently a member of the Therapy in the Forest team in Prague.

Petra Prtina, MA

From 2015 to 2018 she worked in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where she collaborated on the Raising the Level of Creativity in Primary Schools programme. The programme was supported by the Slovenian Ministry of Education. She also participated in the Društvo za nenasilno komunikacijo programme to support children with experiences of violence in the family or among peers.

She also worked on a project concerning the involvement of vulnerable groups in public life implemented under the auspices of Javna agencija za knjigo and conducted individual counselling for clients with eating disorders under the auspices of Društvo Svetovalni svet. For the company Legebitra from Ljubljana, she conducted individual counselling for clients with self-harm issues and eating disorders.
